World Community Arts Day 2009 – Join the party!
CAF has announced plans for an event to celebrate World Community Arts Day (WCAD) 2009. For the 2nd year running CAF will join organisations across the world in a global celebration of community arts.
WCAD was started in 2007 by the Craigmillar Festival Society in Scotland, since then the annual event has grown year on year, with organisations from Brazil, Slovenia, Scotland, Australia, USA, Ireland, Mexico and taking part.
CAF’s contribution to the 2008 day was a gala event in the Waterfront Hall with drama, dance and world music performances, readings and exhibition stalls from projects across the province. CAF also broadcast highlights from the day over two shows thanks to a partnership with Belfast based radio station Feile FM.
This year’s event, an afternoon of showcase performances in the Waterfront Hall’s green room, promises to be another exciting showcase of the wonderful projects happening all across the region. Homely Planet, the community education and grassroots music radio station will also be recording the event for broadcast.
CAF is encouraging community arts projects in any medium to join in! Any group or project using a community arts approach is invited to participate in the Belfast event. This is a unique opportunity to perform in the Belfast’s Landmark Building and raise awareness of your work. There is no cost to participate in or attend WCAD.
WCAD will be held on 17 February 2009.
