Although it continued to explore the theme of creating more peaceful, inclusive societies, Cultures in Conflicts was markedly different than Arts: towards an inclusive society. Whereas the 2005 event explored community arts practice in different contexts and different challenges, Cultures and Conflicts looked at community arts and conflict from a more policy orientated perspective.

CAF teamed up with European policy and culture networks Banlieues d’Europe and Les Recontres and local carnival group the Beat Initiative to explore in more detail the impact that arts and culture can play in societies affected by conflict and division.

 
 
 
 
Arts: towards an inclusive society 2005
 
 

Across the world communities are using arts and culture to highlight and tackle problems and issues affecting their society. Arts: towards and inclusive society brought together some of the most exciting projects from Northern Ireland, South Africa, USA, Kosovo and Sri Lanka to discuss how the arts could create stronger, fairer and more peaceful communities.
