Free funding training - Cookstown

The Rural Community Network are offering 4 free training for community groups throughout February and March 2012.

The first, 'Funding applications - getting it Right' is on Wednesday 8 February from 7pm to 9pm at RCN offices in Cookstown.

Targeting community groups with little or no experience of applying for funding, this training will provide a range of tips and guidance on how to identify appropriate funders using Grant Tracker software and provide practical advice on how to develop stronger funding applications.

Surviving and growing in a recession - Company Solutions

This course will look at a range of creative marketing techniques to help you develop your charity in a difficult economic climate.

This course will look at a range of creative marketing techniques to help you develop your charity in a difficult economic climate. Rather than being negative, a recession can give you new opportunities to innovate when other charities ‘play it safe’

By the end of this three hour course, participants will have experienced a range of creative techniques that will deliver specific business ideas for improvement.

They will have a toolkit of ideas to take back to work to improve your cause on an ongoing basis provided on CD-Rom.

The course includes:

Encouraging everyone in your business to think creatively

Communicating effectively internally and externally

How to out-think your competitors and develop strategic improvement ideas

Various models for brainstorming, our own practical mind-mapping technique and a flagship team exercise for bringing new ideas to any business challenge your charity faces

Practical skills for completing application forms

This session will prepare participants for making funding applications at all stages of the process, covering what to do before, during and after making an application. The session will also consider typical questions asked by funders and how to answer them well.

NICVA 21 February 2012 - 10:00am - 1:00pm £50 members/£70 non members

This introductory level session will be useful for fundraisers, fundraising committee members, or anyone involved in the application process.
It will give an increased awareness of the funding application process and how to increase your chances of success. After the session, you will have an enhanced knowledge of successful funding application procedures and requirements and be more successful with funding applications.

Effective lobbying and campaigning for community groups - RCN

Is there an important issue that your community group is keen to raise or challenge? This training will provide a background on what influences and shapes Government policies in NI and how you might lobby relevant people on a particular issue. It will also give practical guidance on how to prepare and manage effective campaigns.

Event Management for Volunteers

Designed for both existing and new volunteers involved in sports or arts events and also people who support or manage event volunteers; all will benefit. Successful participants will gain an understanding of what is involved in event management for volunteers and have the opportunity to build on their event management skills. Participants who apply for the credited option will gain 5 credit points which could be used towards the University of Ulster’s Certificate of Personal and Professional Development (CPPD).

Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February 2012 at University of Ulster, Jordanstown

Course costs:
Credited - £110 per person (only £60 if you are within the first 20 registered)
Non-credited - £70 per person (only £20 if you are within the first 20 registered)
The above costs reflect a £50 bursary from DCAL for the first 20 applicants to register and pay.

Matching services to need in an age of austerity

One of a series of masterclasses from NICVA's Centre for Economic Empowerment, this masterclass will explore how Government and voluntary and community organisations face a similar challenge of increased demand for services whilst budgets are being squeezed.

This masterclass will
• examine how we can better understand user needs to ensure cost effective and appropriate service delivery.
• focus on the importance of data collection and appropriate data analysis to inform appropriate service provision for both government and non government providers.
• introduce up to date analytical techniques (eg GIS, Consumer Choice Analysis) and explain along with a host of resources that can be accessed to deliver the best possible services based on user need.
