History of the organisation
The Community Arts Forum (CAF) was founded at a meeting of community arts activists in Belfast in January 1993.

CAF has been at the forefront of the phenomenal growth of community arts activity in Northern Ireland over the last 10 years. From an initial membership of 10 groups, CAF has grown rapidly and now represents a borad cross section of communities, artforms and areas.

New constituencies, which previously had little or no access to the arts, are increasingly becoming involved as they experience the benefits of community arts activity and the major impact it is having on general life in Northern Ireland. A new structure of community arts provision is emerging which goes beyond current mainstream arts structures and which is reaching thousands of new people each year.
