A conference was held at Craigavon Civic Centre in September 2003 in order to Highlight and promote good practice for disabled people in the arts.

The conference was titled Good, Better, Best and was aimed at venue managers, arts officers, programme planners, people involved in arts organisations, arts professionals, architects, disabled artists, arts and disability organisations and disabled people involved in the arts.

Speakers Included:

Sandy Fitzgerald – a founder and former director of the City Arts Centre, Dublin. Sandy has over thirty years’ experience as a cultural practitioner and manager. Sandy currently works as a freelance arts consultant.

Maggie Hampton – has been at the forefront of disability arts in Wales since 1984. An experienced arts – specific disability equality trainer, Maggie is the operational manager of Arts Disability Wales.

Eithne Mc Laughlin – Professor of Social Policy at Queen’s University, Belfast. Eithne is also the Northern Irish member of the UK Social Security Advisory Committee and a member of the board of trustees of MAGNI

Susie Rutherford – Policy and training officer for Vision Sense. Susie was also an ambassador working with Tyne and Wear Museums to improve access, in an audience development initiative set up by NorDaf the Northern Disability Arts Forum.

The Morning concluded with a short performance by the Monday Players.
